We are proud for The Unseen & All Ears to feature in a LOVETURL evening showcase focusing on the art of Hip Hop production. The event takes place during the monthly Pomona Art Walk & will also feature a q&a with The Pharcyde, DJ sets from House Shoes, DJ Rhettmatic & TaRaach & beat sets from Ras G, Brandon The Wizard & Uneek.
We're honoured for The Unseen to show at the Pico Live Beats evening, in a very thorough program of workshops, producer sets and screenings. The connection is greatly appreciated and has alerted us to both the talents of Tiago Frúgoli and the São Paulo producer-focused documentary Beat - Um Documentário. We'll be closely looking out for that film's upcoming release
We're pleased to share that the 'The Unseen: A Detroit Beat tape" will be screening at the Queens Film Theatre, Belfast, Northern Ireland on Saturday 8th July at 9.30pm. This is the Irish premiere and tickets can be bought over at the QFT's page.
We're pleased to let you know that The Unseen will be showing in London on Sunday 5th March at Archspace. This will be the UK premiere of The Unseen. Passerby dj's will be playing before and after the screening and there will be a chance to hear exclusive music from the soundtrack on the night.
Archspace London has recently opened by the Soundcrash team. The space in Haggerston has an intimate feel with the venue having one of London's best sound systems from Martin Audio.
From the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit website -
"By popular demand, we are re-screening Gus Sutherland’s seminal Detroit underground hip hop documentary, The Unseen, and adding an additional feature by the same director, the West Coast classic All Ears. Each film explores the soul and roots of hip hop production in their respective regions, mirroring the sketchpad format of a beat tape. The films provide rare insights into a scene that has remained distant from the public eye while birthing some of the culture’s richest and most influential sounds. Featuring luminaries such as J-Dilla, Flying Lotus, Dam-Funk, Dabrye, and many more."
The Unseen explores the soul and roots of Detroit Hip-Hop production, mirroring the sketchpad format of a beat tape. Loosely acting as a prequel to the LA-based documentary, All Ears, The Unseen provides rare insights into a scene that has remained distant from the public eye while giving birth to some of the culture's richest and most influential sounds. The film glimpses the hidden and elusive characteristics inherent in a city often depicted in a one dimensional light. http://mocadetroit.org/upcomingevents.html
